February 6 declared holiday in Consolacion

A SPECIAL non-working holiday will be observed in Consolacion on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, in commemoration of the town’s 101st founding anniversary.

Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado said the special non-working holiday in his town was made possible after President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 1082.

But even though they have scheduled activities in line with the town’s founding anniversary, Alegado said, they are organizing them in compliance with health protocol.

Alegado said their founding anniversary will kick off on Feb. 2 through a town-wide tree planting activity participated by selected employees and accompanied by barangay officials.

The town’s festivities will then culminate with a commemoration to Governor-General of the Philippines Francis Burton Harrison, who is considered as Consolacion’s father of independence, on Feb. 6.

Other activities in line with this year’s founding anniversary include contests in Spoken Word Poetry and Sarok Festival King and Queen Costume Exhibit, among others.

Due to the threat of Covid-19, Alegado urged constituents to continue to follow health and safety protocol.

“We should continue our routine, continue our dreams. Let us continue to aspire fPadayon ta sa atong mga routine, padayon ta sa atong mga pangandoy. Let us continue to aspire to reach them and work

for them but let’s do it safely. We can never be complacent in terms of our safety and security,” said Alegado, through his information office.

Consolacion has at least 28 active Covid-19 cases and a total of 696 cases so far, including 630 recoveries and 38 deaths. / ANV / CBQ
