1st MTB Negros Amazing Race: Blending biking and art

BIKING, being the most prominent outdoor workout and recreation now continues to gain ground among the local enthusiasts with their participation in the 1st MTB Negros Amazing Race held in considered trail zones in Alegria, Murcia; Conception, Talisay; and Alangilan, Bacolod City Saturday, January 30.

Mary Grace Ramos and Jojo Ramos, former officers of MTB Negros, with their current president organized this event that aimed to spread the importance of biking, i.e., bolster camaraderie, positivity and value of the art and leisure.

There were three bikers per team who were all members of MTB Negros.

The race started in Alegria, Murcia and moved to several areas in Brgy Alangilan, Bacolod City and in Barangay Concepcion in Talisay City.

Mary Grace Ramos said this was an "Amazing Race" type of activity with a total route distance of 28 kilometers mostly off roads.

Each team had to complete all seven tasks which included the origami making of a turtle and making a 12-inch bead necklace without using a needle; doing a 3-point basket hoop; eating a kilo of raw vegetables composed of amargoso, carrots and pipino; polvoron eating with 3 pieces each biker afterwhich let out a line "I Love MTB Negros" where they need to prolong the last syllable "ros" the longest that they can; face painting of preferred design; beer drinking with each team member to finish one bottle; and the last was the tongue twister challenge repeating a line: "Nagluto ng pitumpu't pitong puting puto na pinipirito ng puting patong papito-pito."

The champion was Team Pala To composed of Dobie Villadelgado, Francis Solatorio and David Doctora as the champion.

Team The young guns composed of Miko Denajeba, Jojo Ramos and Simon Hulleza landed first place.

The team of Yanyan Muyco with Alex Olmedo and Alfredo Nerza landed second place.

The MTB Negros officers thanked everyone who joined the race which enabled them to realize their objectives of promoting outdoor exercise, camaraderie, art, and fun.

Biking is indeed still the best alternative to promote a healthy lifestyle.
