The much-awaited Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup is set to be officially named the first-ever professional basketball league for the Visayas and Mindanao region by the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) on Wednesday, February 3.

This was revealed by the league’s COO Rocky Chan during a virtual press conference on Monday evening.

“We will have a virtual launch on Wednesday where the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup will be officially announced by GAB Baham Mitra and board of GAB as the newest professional basketball league in the Visayas and Mindanao,” proudly announced Chan.

Chan also revealed that the GAB would soon be releasing a resolution that will give collegiate basketball players the chance to play in the league by way of a special license. Each team will be allowed to have up to five players with this license that will allow them to play in this league without compromising their amateur eligility.

Apart from those five players, everyone who will be playing in the VisMin Super Cup will be considered a professional.

Meanwhile, MDC Sports was also announced as a league partner with their basketball set to be exclusively used for the games once the league tips off on April 9.

A memorandum of understanding (MoA) was signed by league officials and MDC’s Alaine Diaz de Leon and Nico Clemente.

“This partnership is a perfect match since MDC is targeting the Visayas and Mindanao region. This partnership is really a good fit,” said Clemente.

Chan also announced that the Visayas region would have four teams with the addition of a team from Eastern Visayas that will be backed by Xur Homes Realty.

Chan once again reiterated that the league is here to help everyone involved in the sport.

“Super Cup is here to help players, coaches, utility people, referees and everyone involved in the sport of basketball. We want to help lalo na in this time of pandemic. That’s why we applied for a professional license and we’re very fortunate that it was smooth sailing with GAB,” relayed Chan. (JNP)
