Former councilor Albay laid to rest

FORMER Davao City councilor and lawyer Aristeo Vicente Reyes Albay died of lung cancer around 1 p.m. of January 30, 2021 at the Davao Doctors Hospital in Davao City, his daughter Cheekie confirmed in an online message Monday, February 1.

In the Facebook post of former city councilor Peter Laviña, he said Albay was the brains behind Hapsay Dalan (Orderly Streets) and Hapsay Pambalay (Affordable Housing) programs of the city.

Laviña said Albay followed the footsteps of his father, Vicente, to public service, who served the city as engineer and city councilor.

Albay became councilor in 1988 as a member of the 9th City Council. He ended his three-term period in 1995.

Albay was a strong proponent of federalism and established the Kilos Pederal sa Pagbabago (KPP) movement, which aims to build a "competitive type of federalism."

Laviña added that Albay was involved in many pioneering initiatives, "the fruits of which we can see in the city today."

After his City Council term ended, Albay was still active in the socialized housing sector, consultancy and law practice.

His remains will be interred at the Davao Memorial Park Tuesday, February 2, at 10:30 a.m.

Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. at the Sicily Room, Cosmopolitan Metropolitan Chapel in Camus Street.

He is survived by wife Erlinda, four daughters, two in-laws, and four grandchildren.
