POLICE personnel in Eastern Visayas received awards on Monday, February 1, 2021, following their meritorious performance of duties as law enforcers.
“Throughout the years, the Philippine National Police has continually strived to better serve the community especially on the very challenging role to end terrorism, criminality, and proliferation of illegal drugs,” said Brigadier General Ronaldo De Jesus, police regional director.
“With the ongoing pandemic, we will need to perform more and contribute in the fulfillment of PNP’s mission and vision,” De Jesus added.
The awardees include Colonel Arnel Apud and Corporal Marquel Dino of Northern Samar Police Provincial Office; and Colonel Glenn Oliver Cinco and Captain Joselito Tabada of Samar Police Provincial Office, who facilitated the voluntary surrender of former members of the New People’s Army in Lope de Vega, Northern Samar and Catbalogan City, Samar on January 20, 2021 and December 8, 2020, respectively.
Lieutenant Colonel Demosthenes Magnaan and Lieutenant Jose Bayona were recognized for the successful operation in Barangay Sto. Niño, Matalom, Leyte on January 21, 2021, which led to the “neutralization” of Preciano “Penoy” Galleon, who was charged with murder and attempted murder.
Major Ian Salvador Po and Master Sergeant Herbert Bibar received a commendation for the successful conduct of a buy-bust operation against a high-value individual in Barangay San Roque, Tanauan, Leyte on January 14, 2021.
Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan, who served as the guest of honor during the ceremony, lauded the awardees, saying “the mark that you (PNP personnel) made in the consciousness in the Filipino people through your active duty and commitment to service, honor and justice is already indelible for praise and admiration.”
The awarding of police personnel coincided with this year’s 30th founding anniversary of the PNP. (SunStar Philippines)
