Fisherman found dead in Cauayan

THE fisherman who went missing last week after he jumped off his boat was found dead late Monday night, February 1, in the shoreline of Barangay Tuyom in the town of Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Negros Occidental chief Commander Ludovico Librilla said the remains of 36-year-old Teoderico Castellano was found by local residents around 9:20 p.m. floating just a few meters from the shoreline.

Residents immediately notified the PCG sub-station in Cauayan, which subsequently retrieved Castellano's remains.

Librilla said Castellano was positively identified by his sister based on his tattoos on the right side of the victim's shoulder.

The victim was also noted to be already in a state of decomposition at the time of his retrieval and he was immediately brought to a nearby funeral parlor for proper disposition.

Earlier on Friday, January 29, Castellano jumped off his boat in order to retrieve a water container that was knocked off his vessel.

Castellano was unable to return back to his boat as he was dragged by the water's strong current and eventually disappeared in the waves.
