THIRTY-NINE of the 61 barangays in Bacolod City have been declared "Covid-free" for the past 14 days, said Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF).
Sorongon said from January 18 to 31, these 39 barangays have no active cases of Covid-19.
These are Barangays 1 to 4, 6, 8 to 16, 18 to 29, 31 to 41, Banago, Felisa and Montevista.
"We dropped our record from 49 to 39 because of the cases at Transcom where 41 employees have tested positive for Covid-19," Sorongon said.
He said those barangays that were earlier declared Covid-free have now new cases of Covid-19.
"For now, we have the highest cases of Covid-19 from the big barangays, especially those barangays with subdivisions, but it's only a single digit," he added.
As of February 1, Bacolod City has a total of 5,756 cases of Covid-19. Of the number, 5,413 patients already recovered, 159 active cases and 184 deaths.
On the same day, Bacolod had only eight new cases of Covid-19 with no death.
Sorongon said most of the new Covid-19 cases were authorized persons outside residence (Apor), local stranded individuals (LSIs), dialysis patients, and pregnant women, among others.
He said they are also conducting surveillance testing to prevent the spread of the virus.
"We are continuously doing surveillance testing to some sectors and we should not be complacent," he added.
EOC also encouraged those with Covid-19 symptoms to visit the Bacolod Respiratory Outpatient Center at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center (BasyCenter) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for free checkup and swab test.
Sorongon reminded the public to always observe minimum health protocols, such as wearing face masks and face shields, washing of hands and observance of physical distancing.
