AKLAN Governor Florencio Miraflores has asked hotels and establishments operating in Boracay Island to have their own quarantine facility.

Miraflores, in his Executive Order (EO) 003, series of 2021, also directed the barangay and local government offices to do the same.

"Upon assessment of the health safety officer that a tourist is showing Covid symptoms, he/she must be referred to the Covid-19 response team of the Ciriaco Tirol Hospital (in Boracay) for proper management," Miraflores said.

The EO was issued after reports from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) revealed that three tourists who were found coronavirus-positive were able to enter Boracay using fake RT-PCR test results.

A negative RT-PCR test result is required for tourists to enter Boracay.

The PHO said at least 30 tourists attempted to enter Boracay using fake negative RT-PCR test results since December 6, 2020.

This also prompted the Department of Tourism-Western Visayas and the Department of Health central office to issue separate statements asking tourists not to use fake RT-PCR test results.

The Malay Tourism Office reported that the number of tourists who entered Boracay on January 1-31, 2021 reached 11,898. Of the number, 8,951 came from the National Capital Region. (SunStar Philippines)
