Probe underway on 2 Bacolod shooting incidents

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is still conducting a thorough investigation to identify the persons behind the killings of a senior citizen and a 23-year-old girl in Bacolod City on Wednesday morning, February 3, 2021.

Police Major Ramel Sarona, chief of Police Station 1, said Thursday they are eyeing more than two suspects in the killing of Gerome Sientos, 62, of Purok Everlasting, Barangay 29, Bacolod.

He said Sientos was standing near a sari-sari store on Malalusan Street, Barangay 32 when unidentified assailants, who were wearing bonnets, fired at him several times.

The victim sustained multiple wounds and died on the spot.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime 16 empty shells of .45 caliber and four slugs of .45 caliber.

Sarona said they are looking into personal grudges as a possible motive in the killing of the victim.

He said Sientos was a former informant of a law enforcement agency and he was using his cellular phone when the suspects fired at him.

After killing him, the suspects also took Sientos’s cellular phone and fled using a color red vehicle.

The investigators of Police Stations 1 are now coordinating with various business establishments in the area to check their closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to determine the identity of the suspects.

Police Major Joefer Puerto, chief of Police Station 8, said aside from robbery-homicide, they are also eyeing personal grudges or love-triangle as possible motives in the killing of Angelica Montalvo, 23, of Purok Lison, Barangay Banago.

He said they are still conducting a thorough investigation to determine the identity of the gunman and his companion, who served as the driver of their gateway motorcycle.

He said Montalvo’s live-in partner was already married and separated from his wife.

Investigation showed Montalvo along with her live-in partner, her aunt and cousin were about to park their vehicle in front of Medical Plaza, B.S Aquino Drive when an unidentified man got inside their car and declared holdup while pointing a .38 caliber on Montalvo’s head.

Puerto said the suspect ordered them to drive the car going to Barangay Cabug, but when they reached along Oroland Subdivision in Barangay Tangub, the suspect fired his gun hitting Montalvo’s head and fled with his unidentified companion on board a motorcycle, who was waiting in the area.

The suspect carted away some cash and the cellular phone of Montalvo’s live-in partner.

Puerto said the suspect also punched the leg of Montalvo’s aunt when she tried to look at the face of the suspect, while Montalvo’s live-in partner and her cousin were unhurt.

Montalvo was brought to Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, but she did not survive.

Puerto said they are now coordinating with Police Station 4 to check the area of Medical Plaza since it’s under their areas of jurisdiction.

“We will check the CCTV camera in the area and we are also looking for possible witnesses to identify the gunman,” he said./MAP
