Poultry, livestock raisers urged to augment supply

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has encouraged poultry and livestock raisers in Zamboanga Peninsula to increase the supply to meet the public demand.

DA Regional Executive Director Rad Donn Cedeño made the call to address the shortage of supply that caused the spike in prices of pork, beef and chicken.

The prices of meat shoot up from P200 to P300 a kilo due to shortage of supply, as locally produced poultry and livestock products are shipped to Luzon area.

Luzon traders sourced out poultry and livestock products in the region and other parts of Mindanao as they were affected by the African Swine Flue.

Cedeño assured that there will be not food crisis in the region despite the scarcity of poultry and livestock products.

He said Zamboanga Peninsula is abundant in rice, corn and vegetables, as well as seafood.

“Walang dapay ikabahala... malayo tayo sa food crisis,” he said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
