Lizada: Senior double

IF THERE is one thing that I miss, it is eating out.

My wife and I have made eating out a big part of our routine. Do not get me wrong though, it really is not so much about the place but the company. We are perfectly content with coffee and donuts as we are in a buffet. It is the company that is important.

Nowadays, because of this pandemic, the closest we can in eating out is ordering out. We still do not have the courage to truly eat out. And that is too bad really because now we have two senior cards, Chona and I. And because of that, we can have hefty discounts but unfortunately, we can only do that by ordering out. It is not much as fun as the real experience of sitting in a restaurant or café and taking in the ambiance. It is one thing that we miss eating out and that is why we promised each other that when and yes this pandemic will end, we shall take the time to eat out with our Senior cards in tow, and boy will that be a lot of fun.

We even made an initial list of places that we miss. Oh, so many places that we miss and not only in the city but in the out of town restaurants that we frequented before all these happened.

We are talking about a variety of food here. From doughnuts to paella to kinilaw to sinuglaw to shell soup to crispy shrimps. The list is making me crave even more. Some of the best places we have been to are out of town where the food is fresh and tangy. We miss the out of town trips and the freedom it brings. Nothing like an open road with Seventies music on your sound system. I especially like it when it is cloudy with a little drizzle. It is cold, cozy, and comforting. The road beckons. I miss those days.

I read a post recently. It said this pandemic will end. Of course, it will, and one day, someday we shall all tear down our masks and take down the shields that have suffocated for so long. One day we shall not have to wash our hands till they become dry from soap and weariness. But as of now, we shall have to endure and outlast this scourge. We shall have to gather enough strength. We shall have to hope and pray and believe. We must have something to hold on to so we may go through this. And one of the things I hold on to is our Senior cards so we may enjoy them when all these are in the past.

Hang on. The best days are ahead.
