Another PNP personnel dies from Covid-19

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded 50 new cases of Sars-CoV-2 infection and an additional fatality from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

This brought the death toll from Covid-19 among PNP personnel to 30 as of February 7, 2021, said Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, PNP Administrative Support to Covid Operations Task Force (ASCOTF) commander.

He said the latest fatality was a 32-year-old female personnel of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

She died of acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to pneumonia caused by Covid-19.

As of February 7, Eleazar said there were a total of 10,481 cases in the organization with 30 deaths and 9,888 recoveries.

The national police agency has a total of 563 active cases, who are undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Of the active cases, 100 are from the National Support Units, 70 from NCRPO, 65 from Central Visayas and 47 in Calabarzon.

The regions with the least number of active infections among policemen are Mimaropa with zero, Soccsksargen with one, and Northern Mindanao and Bicol with five each.

The police offices with the highest number of Covid-related deaths are the National Support Unit or those whose nature of work in the agency is administrative with 13 and NCRPO with six.

Eleazar assured assistance to policemen who contracted the virus. He said they were continuously strengthening their contact tracing efforts to prevent the further spread of the virus among their personnel.

He urged PNP personnel to receive the vaccine once it is available. The police are on the priority list of vaccine recipients. (SunStar Philippines)
