THE pandemic may have drastically changed everyone’s lives, but it has not dampened the artistry and creativity of Cebuanos, who turned this situation into a source of hope and inspiration.

This was highlighted during the recent Blue Mango Awards, which, together with mobile services provider Smart Communications Inc., celebrated the talent, artistry and ingenuity of Cebuano designers during the much anticipated Cebu Design Week.

Smart supported the awards line with its thrust to enable Filipinos to live giga and pursue their passions with a sense of purpose.

From hundreds of online entries, the Blue Mango Awards picked a total of 15 winners in five categories that challenged designers to think outside the box and find inspiration and hope amid these difficult times.

These categories included Work From Home (WFH) Nooks, Creative PPEs, Upcycled Plant Pots, Covid-19 Response and Small Scale Street Art.

Mac Libe took the top prize in the Work From Home Nooks category for his minimalist setup, while Katrine Limbaga won the Upcycled Plant Pots category that appealed to the growing generation of plantitos and plantitas.

On the other hand, Blue Mango Awards recognized “Pakigkumbati: Cebu Designers’ Initiative Against Covid-19” as the winner for the Covid-19 Response category for its efforts to distribute Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) all over Visayas during the height of the lockdown.

Reysan Ornopia also took the top prize in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) category for his black jumpsuit design, while Dart Almeda placed first in the Small Scale Street Art category for his mural “Pahiyom.”

The Blue Mango awardees took home cash prizes and load packages courtesy of Smart.

“Where do Blue Mangoes grow? Only in your imagination,” said Butch Carungay, chairperson of the Blue Mango Awards Committee, alluding to the creative minds and innovative ideas that inspire the awards program.
