Lacson: Have a break

I AM literally counting the days until this holiday weekend and I could not really hide my excitement. For the first time in decades, my siblings and I are finally going on a trip with our families to celebrate the birthdays of our February-born members. Not only that, we finally mustered the guts to finally go on a trip after more than a year of being locked down because of the pandemic.

I found a lovely place nestled along the shorelines of Morong, Bataan. It is a secluded area where I am hopeful that all of us would surely enjoy the much needed respite that we deserve. Most of us who have returned to work since last year needs a break from all the stress and exhaustion that we are experiencing. At the same time, our kids who have been locked up inside the house are all excited to go swimming.

For me personally, it's not only the time that I will get to spend with my family but the opportunity to unwind and relax even for just a few days. As they say, you can work hard, but you must play harder. I really feel that I need to destress and let myself breathe after being burned out from disappointments and uncertainties. For whatever it's worth, I am really looking forward to just spending the hours of the day enjoying the scenery and the time together with my loved ones. We all deserve a break indeed. The best way to do this is to spend it with your family.

When times are low, it is also a must to just simply step back and take a break. It is when one feels vulnerable and hopeless that being in solitude is the key to rising above the difficulty or pain that we are experiencing. Even when no one seems to understand what you are going through, it is in the quiet time that we have to pause and wait for God's voice to calm us. Prayer is the most solemn key to maintain our sanity.

At this point in my life, I cannot say that I am already happy where I am now. As a goal-oriented person, I have made many negotiations in life that led me to not realizing the dreams I have set when I was still younger. However, life is indeed the way it is. We never really know what to expect until it hits us. I just realized that maybe, the key to a more contented and peaceful life is to not really expect things to happen the way you want them to. Maybe it is even right to say, expect the unexpected.

So while at that, I guess I'll just go with the flow, take it easy on myself, and keep on dreaming that someday, I will get to reap the fruits of my hard work.
