City Council reinforces Kapampangan language use

THE Angeles City Council, led by Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, has begun reinforcing the use of Kapampangan language by sending out resolutions written in the Amánung Sísuan, or mother tongue.

The City Council released four resolutions written in Kapampangan language on February 1, 2021.

Earlier, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., wrote a letter addressed to Vega-Cabigting, asking the City Council to help him in his initiative to enforce Ordinance 424, series of 2017.

The ordinance aims to establish Kapampangan as an official language of Angeles City and institutionalizing its use in all sectors, alongside existing national and official languages.

Lazatin wanted the ordinance's implementation to start from City Government offices.

"We need to lead by example. If we want our kababayans to further use the Kapampangan language, we need to have our officials and employees in City Hall use it first in their daily exchange of communication," Lazatin said.

Lazatin also asked help from media entities such as TV, radio, and print platforms, to raise awareness about the Amánung Sísuan in order to make sure that the next generation of Kapampangans will carry the city's culture and language.
