Eastern Visayas Covid-19 deaths climb to 192

DEATHS related to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) have climbed to 192 in Eastern Visayas following the two additional fatalities recorded on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

The regional health department identified the new fatalities as patient EV-13634, an 81-year-old male from Tacloban City who died on January 27, 2021, and patient EV-14007, a 59-year-old male from Guiuan, Eastern Samar who died on February 6, 2021.

Eastern Visayas also logged 29 new cases of Covid-19 and 114 recoveries on Tuesday, bringing the region's total number of Covid-19 cases to 14,620 and total recoveries to 13,860 (94.80 percent).

The 29 additional cases are from Tacloban City (5), Ormoc City (4), Albuera (1), Kananga (1), Leyte (5), Palo (1), San Miguel (1), Tanauan (1), Maasin City (1), Sogod (1), Allen (1), Guiuan (3), Hernani (3) and Calbayog City (1).

Meanwhile, Maasin City Mayor Nacional Mercado assured the public that they have already instructed their contact tracing team "to submit immediately those who have primary exposure to the patient, as well as his secondary contacts, in order to closely monitor the following individuals in our isolation facility."

He added that primary and secondary contacts will undergo a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

"In light of this, we humbly ask the public to remain vigilant at all times and to religiously practice the infection-prevention and control measures. With our continuous commitment, we can get through this together," said Mercado.

As of Tuesday, February 9, the total active Covid-19 cases in Eastern Visayas has reached 568 (3.89 percent). (SunStar Philippines)
