FIVE smuggled luxury cars worth P30 million were formally destroyed by personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021.

The five cars were among 17 luxury cars that were simultaneously destroyed by the BOC in various parts of the country as part of the agency’s 169th founding anniversary.

Marc Anthony Patriarca, BOC Cebu’s Management and Audit analyst, said the luxury cars that were destroyed were confiscated in various operations they conducted since 2020.

The luxury cars were confiscated by the BOC as they were able to enter the country with questionable documents.

“The documents accompanying the four luxury cars initially declared them as car accessories. But upon verification through X-ray examination, they were found to be complete vehicles,” Patriarca said.

Patriarca declined to divulge the consignees of the luxury vehicles.

The destruction of the confiscated luxury cars was part of the mandate given to the BOC by President Rodrigo Duterte.

During the BOC’s 166th founding anniversary, Duterte led the agency in the simultaneous destruction of 30 smuggled luxury cars in the BOC’s Manila, Davao and Cebu offices.
