A PEDICAB driver died, while his friend was injured after they were shot by an unidentified assailant in Purok Tilapia, Barangay 3, Bacolod City Thursday morning, November 5.

Police identified the fatality as Melchor Chavez, 40, of Barangay 3. Injured was his friend Lourd Dave Robete, 30, of Barangay 34.

Police Captain Leo Estopa, chief of Police Station 2, said Chavez was inside his house along with Robete when the assailant entered the house and fired at them using a caliber .45 pistol around 9:20 a.m.

Chavez sustained multiple wounds and died on the spot, while Robete sustained gunshot wound on his left arm and was brought to a hospital.

Police recovered from the crime scene three empty shells of caliber .45 pistol.

Estopa said before the incident, the victim was talking to a man, whose name is being withheld, inside his house. When the man went out, the gunman suddenly entered the house and killed the victim.

He said the gunman, who was wearing a mask, jacket and camouflage pants, fled toward San Juan Street and boarded a white van vehicle without a plate number attached.

He said they are looking into personal grudge or drug-related as possible motives in the killing of the victim.

The investigators are eyeing more than two assailants and they are also coordinating with the business establishment near the area to check the closed circuit television camera to identity the gunman and his companions.
