Martin vs. Tejones to fight in Biñan

IFUGAO boxing sensation Carl Jammes Martin is in for another tough test as he takes another experienced fighter in Joe Tejones in one of the featured fights of Elorde International Productions’ “bubble” boxing show, “Night of Champions XXII,” on Feb. 20, 2021 at the Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan City, Laguna.

Martin is one of the country’s most promising young prospects, and at 21 years old, he’s being projected as one of the Philippines’ future boxing stars.

Martin is slowly getting noticed by the world and is now rated No. 39 in the bantamweight rankings of the World Boxing Council (WBC). He, however, isn’t tested yet.

Martin last fought on Dec. 18, 2020 in Omega Pro Sports International’s (OPSI) “bubble” boxing show against veteran Richard Rosales in Mandaue City. Martin had his hands full against Rosales, who really came in to fight. Martin, however, walked away with the convincing unanimous decision win.

The 24-year-old Tejones should be a good gauge on what level Martin is at right now.

Although Tejones has only had 20 bouts, he has fought in three WBC Youth title fights. He has also seen action in Japan, China and Thailand.

Tejones has fought the likes of World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 10 ranked bantamweight Vincent Astrolabio, unbeaten Thai Pathinya Phumidet and ex-WBC Youth bantamweight champion Hinata Murata.

Tejones last fought on Sept. 17, 2019 and lost via a fifth round knockout in the hands of Tsuyoshi Tameda in Tokyo, Japan.

Martin is 16-0 with 14 knockouts, while Tejones is 13-7 with seven knockouts.

The Martin vs. Tejones fight is the supporting bout for the World Boxing Association minimumweight title fight between former world champion Vic Saludar (20-4, 11 KOs) and undefeated Robert Paradero (18-0, 12 KOs). / EKA
