CITING the need to adapt to the "new normal,” the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas urged local Public Employment Service Offices (Peso) to start organizing virtual job fairs.
"Given the demands of the times, we, in government, also have to graduate from the usual way of doing things and explore something new that can better address the requirements of the new normal,” DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton said during the the two-day Regional Peso Managers’ Year-End Planning Congress 2020.
“One of the things that we are now looking into is the conduct of the virtual job fairs at the local government units, through their respective Peso,” she added.
The regional labor official said that having reservations would be understandable but that it should not prevent the Peso from exploring the possibilities.
"The many clarifications they raised demonstrated how concerned they are on how to effectively implement new programs," said Siaton.
She assured that DOLE is ready to provide the necessary assistance in transitioning to having virtual job fairs.
"The DOLE will be with them in every step of the way. We will provide them the right support in everything we can," said Siaton.
Last December, the DOLE held a week-long online jobs fair as part of the celebration of the 87th anniversary of the department.
More than 600 domestic companies and 15 licensed recruitment agencies then offered 21,000 overseas and local job opportunities. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
