Comelec revises registration schedule

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is implementing a revised schedule of registration in Zamboanga City to accommodate more new voters.

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, said the registration will be from Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting next week.

The previous schedule of voter registration is from Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cañete said they prefer face-to-face registration amid the health pandemic, but safety and health protocols have to be strictly complied.

Cañete said they only accommodate 10 registrants per hour with a corresponding strict numbering system to ensure the protection of the Comelec personnel.

He reminded the would-be voters to properly use face masks and face shields, as well as to bring their own ballpen to be allowed entry into the election office.

Meanwhile, the election officer announced that they have also rolled out the online listing to hasten the registration of new voters.

He said the biometrics of online registrants will be taken once they visit the office to claim their registration documents.

He added they can register online through www.iregistro.comelec.gov.ph.

The registration will end on September 30, 2021. (SunStar Zamboanga)
