San Jose subdivision reopens gates to outsiders

RESIDENTS living at the back of a private subdivision in Barangay San Jose, Cebu City won’t have to worry about their access to the main road.

This, after the homeowners association and the developer agreed to open the gates again for the residents following a meeting with Barangay San Jose chief Jovenito Ardaba.

Ardaba told SunStar Cebu that the subdivision’s developer reopened their gates at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, hours after members of the San Jose Homeowners Association held a rally outside the subdivision.

The residents held a rally after the developers closed the subdivision’s gate since Feb. 9, preventing them from getting access to the barangay’s main road.

Ardaba said the concerned parties agreed to allow the residents to pass inside the subdivision for six more months while a diversion road is being constructed by the barangay.

Ardaba said should they fail to complete the diversion road within six months, the residents will be restricted from passing the area again.

Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of the council’s infrastructure committee, said a three-meter road will be built for the residents.

Guardo said there is also an existing 1.5-meter road right of way which was donated by the developer, but it was not being used because of a structure blocking it.

He said the City Engineering Department and Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) team will check the area so it will be cleared from any obstructions.

Guardo said residents can use the 1.5-meter road within the month.

Barangay officials said they sought leeway for at least six months as constructing the three-meter road for the residents still needs to undergo expropriation proceedings. (JJL)
