Gunmen kill drug suspect who had evaded arrest

A DRUG suspect linked to a slain policeman was gunned down in Pinamungajan, Cebu over the weekend, around four months after he evaded arrest, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Debold Sinas said on Monday, February 15, 2021.

Eddie Lumontad, who had evaded the police in October 2020, was shot dead by unidentified men inside his residence in Upper Kampo, Pinamungajan.

Sinas said five men were involved in the attack on Lumontad. They fled after the incident.

“Investigators have processed the crime scene for possible trace evidence and have taken witness’ statements that will aid probers in establishing the identities of the gunmen,” said Sinas.

Lumontad was listed in police records as a second-level drug personality.

He was allegedly an associate in the illegal drug business of slain policeman Adonis Dumpit, who was killed in an operation conducted by police and National Bureau of Investigation units in Bohol.

Sinas said Lumontad belonged to a group operating in the southwest area of Cebu Province, particularly in the municipalities of Pinamungajan, Balamban, Asturias, and cities of Toledo and Carcar.

Lumontad eluded arrest during the conduct of a drug bust on October 21, 2020 in Lapu-Lapu City.

His cohort, former university teacher Gilbert Lumanog, was arrested during the said operation.

Recovered from him were 22 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) valued at around P160 million. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
