Alcantara ready to host Visayas leg of the VisMin Super Cup

THE mayor of Alcantara, Cebu expressed his town’s readiness to host the Visayas leg of the country’s first professional basketball league in the south, the Pilipinas VisMin Super League.

With Covid-19 cases once again rising in Cebu City, league organizers were forced to look for alternative venues. The mayor of Alcantara, Fritz Lastimoso, then stepped up and offered his town’s facilities for the maiden season of the league.

“We are very excited and very honored that the Games and Amusements Board visited our gym and it seems they are quite satisfied in their assessment. But we have to finalize everything and when the league would push through,” said Lastimoso after officials from the GAB paid a visit to inspect the town’s gym.

At the moment, officials are already working on the renovation of the gym to suit the health protocols that have been set forth by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases. GAB officials also took a look at resorts in Moalboal where the players are slated to stay in. Because of the enormity of the event, Lastimoso shared that he would be seeking help from the local government units of Moalboal and Badian.

“We are very much prepared; we have even rehabilitated our gym to fit the specifications of the Games and Amusement Board. In short, we are very ready and excited,” said Lastimoso.

Lastimoso added that potential hosting is a great opportunity for his town to gain recognition.

“This is tourism and Alcantara will be placed on the map of Cebu and in the Philippines even if it is a fifth class municipality. And this would be an honor and a great experience for my constituents and the rest of the Cebu province,” Lastimoso shared. (JNP)
