4 men kill wife of 'drug lord'

THE wife of suspected drug lord Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro was gunned down by four armed persons past 4 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2021 in Sitio Timobo, Barangay Cabungahan, Danao City.

The fatality identified as Alma Kato Alvaro, 40, was rushed to the public hospital in the city where she was pronounced dead.

Before she was shot, Alma had been singing videoke with her relatives inside her family’s house, said Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, the Danao City police chief.

The four unidentified men arrived in the Alvaro residence in Timobo. They forced open the door.

When they were inside the house, they demanded that all the persons inside lie facedown. They grabbed Alma; one of them shot her in the face and head.

Macatangay said they are still investigating to determine the motive behind the murder. One possible reason, she said, could be that there is a group that held a grudge against the Alvaros.

In June 2016, days after escaping a shootout in Las Piñas City during an attempt by Cebu policemen to arrest him,

Alvaro Alvaro surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation in Bohol. The shootout had killed another suspected drug lord, Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz.

After his surrender, Alvaro was brought to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City. (GPL)
