AROUND 119 gymnasts from 20 clubs across six countries -- France, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, Australia, and host-Philippines -- are seeing action in the upcoming 1st MK Rhythmic Gymnastics International Online Competition on February 25-28, 2021.

Lead organizer Kris Joy Leeping said the event, which partnered with Smart and Samsung, will feature the categories, namely: baby, developmental, pre-junior, junior, and senior.

Leeping, who is also the Tournament Manager for Rhythmic Gymnastics in the Palarong Pambansa held in Davao City last 2019, added that among the Filipino participants are gymnasts who are also medalists in the Palarong Pambansa, Batang Pinoy, and Philippine National Games.

The international online rhythmic gymnastics competition aims to promote rhythmic gymnastics even during this time of the worldwide pandemic.

It also intends to encourage gymnasts, not just from the Philippines, but from all over the world to perform and gain experience, as well as develop friendship and linkages among various rhythmic gymnastics clubs around the world, the organizers stressed.

MK Gymnastics co-founder Ma. Kristina Alagaban said they thought of holding this kind of competition wherein all interested gymnasts from the Philippines and other countries can showcase their talents and skills in rhythmic gymnastics even during this time of the pandemic.

"And the only way we can conduct this is through an online platform, which has been done by some clubs from other countries where we participated in," she added.

Aside from the podium finish, other special awards will be given such as Miss Expression, Miss Elegance, Miss Energetic, Miss Flexibility, and Miss Smile.

The technical director for this event is Russel John Ronquillo.
