Cops probe 3 shooting incidents in Eastern Visayas

POLICE in Eastern Visayas continued to investigate a wave of gun violence that resulted in the death of two persons and the wounding of another victim in less than a week.

On Tuesday morning, February 16, unidentified gunmen shot a 59-year-old government employee who was on his way for medical examination in Tacloban City.

Police identified the victim as Rodolfo Concillo, a forest technician assigned at the Department of Environment and Natural Resource (DENR)-Cenro in Palo, Leyte.

He died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.

A 63-year-old vendor was also shot in Basey, Samar over the weekend.

Initial investigation disclosed the victim, Artemio Engracia, was walking down the road when he was shot by still unidentified assailants.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound in the head, which led to his death, police said in the report.

In Maasin City, Southern Leyte, a 32-year-old construction worker, identified as Nelson Laran Justan, was hospitalized after he was shot on February 14.

A hot pursuit operation led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Enrique Sigues, who is also a resident of the city.

Police also recovered from the suspect's possession a caliber .357 Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with two live ammunition and four fired cartridges of caliber .357, according to the report.

Police have yet to determine the motive in the shooting. (Sunstar Philippines)
