Tampok goes online for National Arts Month 2021

THE National Committee on Dramatic Arts (NCDA), in partnership with the Youth Advocates Through Theater Arts Inc. (Yatta), spearheads the 4th year of Tampok, the flagship program of the NCDA for National Arts Month 2021, with Tampok 2021: E-Turo Dula and e-Pasundayag.

Tampok 2021 is a spin-off from last year's Tampok which was held amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The latter was dubbed as Tampok Sabadulaan Saturday Conversations on Theater, which featured nine Saturdays of panel discussions in relation to the vision of crafting a blueprint of an academy of Philippine theater. After the successful online panel discussions, artists and artist groups expressed their interest to take part in the next steps towards realizing this academy and led to initial ideas of forming regional consortium of academic institutions, theater companies, cultural networks/associations, CSOs and LGUs to come up with theater training program for Filipino theater artists.

With this, Tampok 2021 will be composed of two component activities: e-Turo Dula, a series of specialized online theater courses, and e-Pasundayag, a collection of video documentaries featuring works of renowned theatre companies in the country and their contributions to theater making in the Philippines.

Tampok's e-Turo Dula is comprised of five online theatre courses done weekly in 3-hour synchronous (via Zoom) and asynchronous sessions, which will run for 6 weeks. NCDA Executive Member Dr. Jazmin Llana will serve as the program's Curriculum Director. Among the topics offered for e-Turo Dula are traditional theatre form, theatre management, community theatre practices, research in play productions, and theatre for development. The online courses will run from February 14 onwards.

Meanwhile, the e-Pasundayag component shall include productions from Mindanao State University Integrated Performing Arts Group (MSU-IPAG), Dulaang UP, University of San Agustin Little Theater, and Artist Inc., as well as digital presentations of works by Philippine Educational Theatre Association (Peta), Alyansa/GUSI, Kabpapagariya Ensemble, Kaboronyagan Bicol Cultural Network/Sining Banwa and Kasing Sining which will be followed by a talkback from each production's key artistic team leaders. Each play will be subtitled in English to reach both local and international audiences, and will run from February 13 to 28, 2021.
