Woman shot dead in Bacolod

A 29-YEAR-OLD woman was shot to death by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle on South Capitol Road, Barangay 8, Bacolod City Saturday evening, February 20, 2021.

Police identified the fatality as Medelyn Benignos of Purok Lampirong, Barangay 2, Bacolod.

Police Lieutenant Andy Ofelia, deputy chief of Police Station 2, said Sunday the victim was onboard a tricycle when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired at her several times around 7:15 p.m. and fled.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds on her head and neck and died on the spot.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime two fired cartridges and two slugs of an unidentified firearm.

Ofelia said the driver of the tricycle fetched her wife along 888 Chinatown Square Mall. When they reached Ayala Malls Capitol Central, the victim rode with them towards Barangay 2, but the unidentified suspects, who were wearing helmets, fired at her.

He said the driver and his wife were unhurt.

“It means she was only the target of the suspects and until now, we are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive in the killing of the victim,” he added.

Police Station investigators are also coordinating with business establishments near the area to check the footage of their security cameras to identity the perpetrators.

In February alone, Benignos was the fifth person killed by unidentified assailants in Bacolod City. All suspects were still at-large.
