The platform allows programming teachers to manage their class, create programming problems and activities for students to answer online and mimic actual classroom set-up to complement teachers’ teaching strategies—making it ideal for education in this new normal.
It has built-in lessons and activities like word problems that are practical and easy to understand with different programming languages and courses like Java Course and Python Course. Teachers can also set the level of difficulty for each built-in activity. CodeChum allows teachers to upload specific learning materials from external sources.
Its features also include dark and light mode; automatic checking, in which the system will automatically check and score a student’s work once submitted; mobile responsiveness, which allows both teachers and students to use the web app with ease on their mobile phones with little to no compromise; and progress tracker so teachers can easily monitor the performance of their students’ activities in real time, giving teachers ideas on which areas their students can improve in.
CodeChum also has this feature that monitors students’ online activities and notifies teachers if students are closing or opening other tabs.
“We want to raise awareness on how important programming is to everyone and what it can do to people. And we want to educate people that programming can be learned at any age by using our platform,” said co-founder and chief executive officer Jemar Jude Maranga.
CodeChum is currently used in over 27 places in the Philippines with over 150+ teachers, 6000+ students and counting. It is used by universities like the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, Our Lady of Fatima University, Western Leyte College of Ormoc, Malayan Colleges Laguna and Cebu Technological University. The Philippine Science High School and Cebu City National High School are also using this educational platform.
As its way of helping programming teachers, CodeChum allows them to create a free trial account that is good for one month without any commitments. Credit card details are not required as well. The free trial allows access to problem databases, built-in lessons and creating one’s programming problems.
After a month, if teachers find value in CodeChum, they can subscribe to its premium version. It offers a Solo Plan for only P200 a month, that allows teachers to conduct unlimited classes, access to problems databases, built-in lessons, create one’s programming problems, explore class and activity data, randomize activity problems, student statistics and feature exam mode for activities.
