BACOLOD City Police Station 2 is eyeing two possible motives in the killing of a 29-year-old woman in South Capitol Road, Barangay 8, Bacolod City Saturday evening, February 20, 2021.

Police Lieutenant Andy Ofalia, deputy chief of Police Station 2, said Monday that they are eyeing personal grudges or drug-related involvement as possible motives in the killing of Medelyn Benignos, a resident of Barangay 2.

He said before the incident, the victim, who has a stall at 888 Chinatown Square Mall, has a misunderstanding with the other stall owners in the area. She was also seen having a meeting with an identified drug personality in Bacolod.

“It’s well-planned to kill her in the area. The suspects already monitored her activities,” he added.

Ofalia noted that in previous years, the victim, who engaged in selling cellular phones and other gadgets, was only employed in a stall in the said mall, but had since owned a business.

On Saturday, the victim was onboard a tricycle when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired at her several times around 7:15 p.m. and fled.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds on her head and neck and died on the spot.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime two fired cartridges and two slugs of .45 caliber.

Ofalia said the driver of the tricycle fetched her wife along 888 Chinatown Square Mall. When they reached Ayala Malls Capitol Central, the victim rode with them towards Barangay 2, but the unidentified suspects, who were wearing helmets, fired at her.

He said the driver and his wife were unhurt.

He added they already checked pieces of footage from a security camera in the area, but it did not capture the movements of the suspects.
