ANGELES CITY -- Residents of Diamond Subdivision in Barangay Balibago this city held a protest rally on Friday to oppose the on-going construction of a cell site tower located inside the residential area.

Andy Steward, Board of Director member of the Diamond Subdivision Home Owners and Residents Association Inc. said that residents “do not approve” the construction of the 100 feet cell site tower being constructed inside the populated Diamond Subdivision.

“We do not want this tower here, we are very much concern on the health and safety of the people inside this subdivision, because we feel that 5G can be a health hazard. We also feel that having a tower here will take away the natural beauty of this subdivision, they can put it somewhere else but not here,” Steward said.

The homeowners wrote a letter to Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting saying that no consultation was made prior to the construction.

A petition was also signed by residents asking the city government, particularly the city council and barangay officials, to stop this project.

The private lot where the tower is being erected is owned by Eddie Bondoc, also a director of DSHRAI, who is leasing the 169 square meter lot to Dito Telecom for 10 years and a rental of P25,000 per month.

Jerry Ponce, also a member of the Board of Director, said that the memo of conformity signed by the lot owner and the said telecommunication company will automatically be nullified sans neighborhood concent.

Balibago Barangay Chairman Tony Mamac said he invited all parties concerned to a special session of the arangay council to air their side on the said issue.

Mamac said that prior to the granting of clearance from the barangay, the council assume that all requirement has already been met by DITO.

He said they found out that only the HOA president and Director Bondoc knew about the said cell site tower project.

“I will be writing a letter to DITO for them to stop the construction since they have not complied with all the requirements needed,” Mamac said.

DITO Telecom representatives are set attend a barangay council session on Monday to air their side on the issue.

Bondoc, for his part, assured that they will respect whatever the city government's decision regarding the issue.

“Kung ano po ang desisyon ng city at ng barangay ay sususnod ako, nag assume ako na dahil private property ko ang lote kaya di ako nag konsulta sa kanila (fellow homeowners),” Bondoc said.

Virgilio Carino, acting President of DSHRAI said that DITO was given a clearance to proceed construction knowing that they already complied with all the requirements.

“Sila (DITO) and dapat mag comply ng mga requirement hindi kami, kung ma null and void yung contract nila ni Mr. Bondoc wala kami magagawa kasi hindi sila tumupad sa kasunduan,” Carino added. (Chris Navarro)
