It remains to be seen whether Magnolia’s veteran forward Marc Pingris would be playing in the upcoming 2021 PBA Philippine Cup or not as he continues to recover from a calf injury that has kept him from the playing court for over a year now.

Hotshots head coach Chito Victolero said he is in constant communication with the former Gilas standout although the topic of Pingris playing this season has yet to be brought up.

"Ang naging usapan namin siguro by March meron na tayong update kay Ping. Actually, hinihintay ko din siya, pero ayaw ko naman siyang madaliin dahil meron din naman siyang programang sinusundan. Right now, regular naman niyang pinapalakas yung injured sa kanya," said Victolero during his appearance on The Chasedown.

Pingris last played for the Hotshots in the 2019 Governors’ Cup and opted not to join the team during their campaign in the bubble of the 2020 Philippine Cup. He also has yet to join Magnolia’s team workouts.

Victolero added that he would wait for Pingris to make his decision, although they have already reserved a spot on the team for him if he decides to play this season.

"Ayaw kong mauna kung anuman yung sasabihin ni Ping. I just want to respect the person dahil grabe naman talaga yung contribution niya not only with the Purefoods franchise, but with the entire basketball community dito sa Pilipinas," said Victolero. (JNP)
