THE 84th Charter Day of Cebu City will be commemorated online amid the Covid-19 pandemic on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021.

The virtual celebration will start at 6 p.m.

Mayor Edgardo Labella said only the wreath-laying ceremony will be conducted in person. This will be held on Wednesday morning, while the recognition of various individuals will be done online in the evening.

During the virtual program, which will be shown through television and online, outstanding individuals and organizations will be awarded, said Labella.

City Hall employees who have been working for a long time will be recognized and they will receive loyalty award.

In the past weeks, lectures were being conducted online.

A lecture on the life of Don Vicente Rama, the author of the Cebu City Charter, was conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 23. He is the grandfather of Vice Mayor Michael Rama.

This year’s Charter Day carries the theme, “Interwoven with faith; strengthened by unity; celebrating the Cebuano resiliency.”

In 2020, the City Hall held a testimonial dinner at Waterfront Hotel and Casino, less than a month before the National Government started to impose community quarantine to stem the spread of Covid-19 infections. (JJL)
