CITY of San Fernando Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago aims to establish agricultural development and climate resiliency for increased, efficient, and sustainable food production in this city.

The mayor discussed this with Director Crispulo Bautista Jr., OIC-Regional Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office-Central Luzon on February 18.

Together with City Agriculturist Cristina A. Sangumay, Santiago shared to Bautista the LGU’s road to the “Recovery as One” program.

Under the said program, the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (Cavo) has been conducting seminars and training for Fernandino farmers; awarding machinery equipment and materials; and, helping their goods to reach the market on price-point. The City has also been involving the community in food production through its Urban Gardening Program, Gulayan sa Paaralan, and backyard gardening where anyone can participate and ask for vegetable seeds from Cavo.

Santiago also thanked the DA through Bautista for its untiring support and assistance to Fernandino farmers during the pandemic. DA had distributed free certified seeds, hybrid seeds, fertilizers to farmers. A greenhouse with hydroponic will be also constructed at the City demo site or nursery to showcase high-value crop production. (PR)
