CANDABA Councilor Narciso "Siso" Maglanque on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, shed light on the sudden change of color flowing in an irrigation canal in Barangay Barit in Candaba town, Pampanga.

Over the weekend, residents of the said barangay were shocked to see that the water flowing from the irrigation canal turned bloody red.

Several photos were posted on social media, which immediately garnered thousands of shares and left netizens wondering its cause.

Through a video message, Maglanque, husband of the incumbent Barangay Barit chairwoman, said that the change of color in the water was caused by rice sacks that were rinsed in the area.

"Ang tubig na pula na dumaloy sa patubig ay sanhi ng paglilinis ng mga sako ng mga taga-ibang barangay na dumaloy sa amin sa Barangay Barit," the councilor said, citing the investigation conducted by the barangay.

He added that the sacks that were rinsed off were mostly color red.

As of Thursday, Maglanque said the color of water already turned back to normal and residents and farmers need not worry about the possible effects on their crops.
