IN CELEBRATION of the National Arts Month, the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts (NCAAA) of The National Committee on Culture and The Arts (NCCA) in cooperation with CulturAid, Inc., presents SAAN KA LULUGAR? | Conversations on Spaces in a Post-Pandemic World, a blended event composed of webinars, live-stream build and a design competition.
Featuring experts in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and planning, NCAAA brings varying perspectives and an informed look into the way space is used to continue living in a world that has inevitably changed.
WEBINAR SERIES
Webinar 1, titled ESPASYO AT URBANIDAD | Agile Cities, Urbanism, and a Reevaluation of Philippine Living Spaces will be held on February 26, 2021 (Friday, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.) discussing on how to fare in terms of agile thinking and future-proof design, reevaluation on how cities and public spaces were built, and discussion on how current social design and architecture have affected how people work, think, and move, especially in today's world.
Webinar 2, titled DUNONG DURUNGAWAN | The Wisdom of Indigenous Filipino Architecture and Rural Space is on March 5 2021 (Friday, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.) will be discussions on the genius behind our indigenous architecture to better understand sustainability and inclusion, and further delve into social value, world view and relevance of vernacular architecture within communities around the Philippines.
On Webinar 3, titled PALIT, LIPAT, LAPAT | Transforming Educational, Cultural, and Commercial Spaces Post-Pandemic which will be on March 12, 2021 (Friday, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.) will feature speakers from different fields share their best practices in transforming, adjusting, and adapting to the pandemic and beyond.
And on Webinar 4, SAAN NA TAYO ULIT? | Inclusive Design, Innovation, and Future Proofing our Spaces on March 19, 2021 (Friday, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.) will talk about how the pandemic changed everyone’s interaction with each other within living and work spaces.
LIVESTREAM EVENT/
The livestream event will be around March to April, titled LIVE-BUILD | The Creation of a Bale.
There are many terraced mountains globally, but the bale or traditional Ifugao house dotting the Ifugao rice terraces instills a sense of place; it is truly Filipino.
There will be an in-depth look at the bale and what is involved in its construction, the principles and beliefs behind it, and the people who continue to build it through a livestream interactive event.
The Basilio family of farmers, weavers, and brass-casters run the Gonhadan Cultural Village. With Culturaid, they envision an inclusive culture hub of Ifugao culture. We’ve restored and built five bale as part of their open-air museum, workshop space for creatives, and sustainable bed and breakfast. In this livestream, the audience will witness the finishing of the 6th Bale. Here, the viewers will converse, take part in a thanksgiving ritual and gain a better understanding about this unique dwelling space.
SAAN KA LULUGAR? | The Search for Future-Proof Design Solutions
Necessity calls for innovation and creativity, especially in these unprecedented times. The NCAAA call on planning and design professionals and students to join this design competition, which seeks to provide solutions for a community or organization on how they can retrofit or reconfigure their space in response to the pandemic and natural hazards.
Winners will be announced in April/May.
