THE Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) apprehended 28 quarantine violators during its synchronized law enforcement operations over the weekend.

Police apprehended in the first three days of implementation 10 violators from February 26 to 27, and 18 violators from February 27 and 28.

Police Major Zosimo Jabas, chief of the Operations and Management Unit of MCPO, said the synchronized operations among all six police stations in Mandaue City will be conducted every Friday until Sunday starting February 26.

He said all police stations will conduct 24-hour patrol operations and "rekorida" to ensure the sustainability of the quarantine protocol enforcement.

Jabas said they conduct the operations every Friday to Sunday because people tend to go out during weekends. Stations will still have their own deployment and operations on weekdays.

MCPO also tapped barangay officials to initiate a "rekorida" at the interior portion of the barangay, together with the Police sa Barangay (PSB). It will also augment another police officer to function as PSB in each barangays.

The Emergency Operations Center for Covid-19 earlier tasked the MCPO to strictly enforce quarantine protocols, considering the drastic increase in Covid-19 cases in the city.

It can be recalled that the Police Regional Office downloaded 50 new police officers for MCPO on the first week of February.

The MCPO said it will not only apprehend violators of the minimum health standard such as not wearing face masks, social distancing, and curfew but also other protocols implemented by the city and national government.

Meanwhile, Jabas said ever since the liquor ban was implemented on February 20, they have visited establishments that sell alcoholic drinks. So far, establishments were "compliant with the directive." (KFD)
