FILIPINA-AMERICAN Jackie Buntan scored a huge upset after a unanimous decision over two-time Thailand Muay Thai champion Wondergirl Fairtex in ONE Championship: Fists of Fury on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Fairtex, who’s coming off back-to-back knockout wins, was on the attack in the opening round, but Buntan was comfortable on the defense. She successfully defended and countered Fairtex’s offense. Near the end of the round, Buntan dropped Fairtex with a counter left hook.
Buntan continued to do damage on Fairtex in the second round, landing punch combinations to the head and body.
In the third round, Buntan continued to land amd evade Fairtex’s strikes by moving around the cage. Fairtex couldn’t take advantage of her daunting power because she couldn’t land clear strikes on Buntan.
Buntan improved to 21-6 and will most likely be a future contender in the strawweight division.
