Calim, Abelardo to see action in ‘ONE: Fist of Fury II’

FILIPINO-Indonesian Aziz Calim and Filipino-Kiwi Mark Abelardo are seeing action in ONE Championship: “Fist of Fury II” on March 5 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Calim faces off with Indian Roshan Mainam, while Abelardo locks horns with American Emilio Urrutia.

The 23-year-old Calim is eager to bounce back after losing his last contest. He was submitted by Ryoto Sawada via a rear-naked choke in the opening round on Aug. 16, 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Mainam is a winner of his last two fights, both in the ONE Championship cage. He submitted Khon Sichan via a first round Americana in his ONE debut in 2019. He followed it up with a second round rear-naked choke finish of Peng Shuai Liu in 2020.

Calim is 5-4, while Mainam is 5-2.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Abelardo is also looking to bounce back after losing his last two fights. He lost to then unbeaten Troy Worthen by unanimous decision on Feb. 28, 2020 and then was submitted by Brazilian prospect Fabricio de Andrade via a first round rear-naked choke on July 31, 2020.

Urrutia, 34, is also in dire need of a win after losing his last three bouts in the ONE Championship. He hasn’t won a fight since beating Bruno Pucci on Jan. 26, 2018. He last saw action on Feb. 16, 2019, wherein he was stopped by Yoshiki Nakhara in the third round.

Abelardo is 19-8, while Urrutia is 11-7.

The main event of “Fist of Fury II” features a heavyweight match between Iranian former Greco-Roman Wrestling world champion Amir Aliakbari (10-1) and unbeaten South Korean Ji Won Kang (4-0). (EKA)
