Negros Mascuvados to join MPBL

THE Negros Mascuvados will be joining the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) when its new season starts this June.

The team will be composed of homegrown talents such as former University of the Visayas standouts Jafet Claridad and Patrick Dave Yulo, who helped the Green Lancers capture the 2018 Cesafi championship.

The team will be coached by Rolando Aledron Jr. and will feature players who have played in colleges and universities around the Negros region. These are Ritcer Santillan from Sagay City, Jonathan Gantalao Jr. from Canlaon City, and Bacolod City’s Jeric Adorio, Janus Calma, Jaycee Adjei, Francis John Parreño, Rolly Jaca and Christopher Menguez.

After much delay due to the ongoing health crisis, the MPBL Lakan Cup is already nearing its conclusion after the Inter- Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) approved the league’s plan to stage its playoffs and finals inside a bubble inside Subic.

Duking it out in knockout matches for the division titles are Davao Occidental and Basilan in the South Division, and Makati and San Juan in the North Division.

The winners of those matches will advance to the best-of-five finals. (JNP)
