Negros Press Club officers take oath of office

THE new set of officers of the Negros Press Club has assumed office effective March 1.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia administered their oath of office in rites held at the Negros Media Center, San Juan Street, Bacolod City.

The NPC officers are Yves Montecillo, President; Eljohn Castaño, Vice President; Nanette. Guadaquiver, Secretary; Eden Aboso, Treasurer; Martian Muyco, Auditor; and Directors Merlinda Pedrosa, Boy Duran, Carla N. Cañet, and James Toga. Immediate past President Glazyl Jane Marie Masculino serves as the ex-officio member of the club.

The oath-taking rites were held with the strict observance of the social distancing and wearing of face masks and face shields.

Mayor Leonardia went down memory lane when he addressed the new set of officers about him being the former president of the Club in the Year 1985-1986.

His close association with the club started when his eldest sister Madam Ninfa Leonardia, the current editor-in-chief of the Visayan Daily Star, served as the first woman President of the NPC, the oldest Press Club in the country.

He said he has high regard for the NPC being an institution of well meaning individuals whose roster of presidents reflects the stature of the club.

He also urged the new officers to utilize reasonably their impact on the community especially in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the City Government is taking a serious posture on the Covid-19 vaccination, he urged the fourth estate through the Negros Press Club to help disseminate the right information that will enable to educate the public about the Covid-19 vaccination.

He said the city will have enough supply of Covid-19 vaccines where he hopes and prays that as a good guardian of society, "we can all bring our people to the Promise Land."

Montecillo, on the other hand, extended the appreciation of the club to Mayor Leonardia for taking time out in serving as the administering officer of the oath of office for the new set of officers.

The NPC officers vowed to perform the task that is expected of them especially in serving the welfare of the club, its members and also the community that it serves.
