THE Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, issued an order extending the current school year to July 10, 2021 in all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide.

Private schools, technical and vocational institutions, and higher education institutions, including state and local universities and colleges offering the K to 12 basic education program, are also encouraged to implement this.

Under the latest DepEd order, the amended school calendar is:

March 1-12, 2021 - Interventions for bridging learning gaps and intensifying learning gains

March 15-19, 2021 - In-Service Training for teachers and school break for learners

March 22 to May 15, 2021 - Quarter 3

May 17 to July 10, 2021 - Quarter 4

The new schedule will “allow schools to implement interventions for bridging learning gaps and give time to teachers for the different learning delivery modalities,” DepEd said.

DepEd Order No. 012, s. 2021 amended DepEd Order No. 030, s. 2020, which had set the school year for October 5, 2020 to June 11, 2021, and DepEd Order No. 007, s. 2020, which had set the school year for August 24, 2020 to April 30, 2021.

Class opening was delayed to August 24, 2020 and later moved to October 5, 2020 due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. (SunStar Philippines from PR)
