13 persons arrested by Labangon police test positive for Covid

A TOTAL of 13 persons under the custody of the Labangon Police Station in Cebu City tested positive for the virus that causes Covid-19 after they were swabbed last week.

The results came out on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021. All of them showed no symptoms.

Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, deputy city director for operation of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said only seven of the arrested persons remain at the police station, while four others were already transferred to the Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology and the remaining two gained temporary liberty after posting bail.

The seven detainees, all men, were placed in a vacant female holding cell for isolation.

Parilla said the two persons who posted bail were not released from the Labangon Police Station’s custody. They were brought to a barangay isolation center where they will be quarantined for a week.

The CCPO instructed the Labangon Police Station that if they apprehend women in their future anti-criminality operations, they must transfer them to the CCPO headquarters’ holding cell.

Newly arrested persons must also be swabbed to make sure they are not carrying the virus.

Parilla said there were police officers who were in close contact with the detainees who tested positive for the virus, but he said there was nothing to worry about because the police officers who handled their cases all wore personal protective equipment. (AYB)
