Zamboanga City joins Women's Month Observance

THE Zamboanga City Government joins the nation in the observance of 2021 National Women's Month this March, celebrating women at the frontline of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said this year's observance is anchored on the theme of "Mujeres Contra Pandemia: Kaya!"

Salazar said the observance highlights the challenges and opportunities the pandemic brought to all women.

She said virtual activities, spearheaded by the City Government, through its Gender and Development unit, will be held in lieu of face-to-face events due to Covid-19 restrictions on mass gatherings and social distancing.

The virtual activities will include: Online Talakayan featuring Young Women Leaders of Zamboanga City, March 8; Sulong Juana Para Kay Juana - Love Drive, March 12; Budjang: The Little Lady Under the Mangrove Tree - Documentary Viewing, March 19; Popularization of Comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Ordinance of Zamboanga City, March 26; and Virtual Women's Summit 2021, March 30.

The Philippine Commission on Women said the 2021 National Women's Month Celebration serves as "a tribute, a platform, and a call to action that highlights the extraordinary roles of ordinary Juanas in the society as trailblazers and harbingers of change."

From 2017-2022, the National Women's Month celebration banners women empowerment under the battle cry of "We Make Change Work for Women." (SunStar Zamboanga)
