THE Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Central Visayas opened additional slots for the Theoretical Driving Course in its Driver’s Education Center (DEC).
From five students per week, LTO added 20 more slots, which means that one Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) can now accommodate a total of 25 students.
LTO 7 is also working with LTO Central Office to secure regular funding for the DEC so that it can offer not only the TDC but also the Practical Driving Course (PDC).
LTO 7 Regional Director Victor Emmanuel Caindec disclosed these after LTO Central Office announced that the 15-hour TDC for LTO DEC's is now available for free.
Under the LTO Memorandum Circular 2019-2176, individuals need to undergo the mandatory 15-hour TDC before they can get their student-driver permit.
"After launching our Malasakit Service Center two weeks ago, we have made our People's Hall at the second level of our N. Bacalso office our new classroom for the TDC," said RD Caindec.
He said that they have expanded the classroom to accommodate more due to the long list of applicants.
The TDC in LTO 7's DEC will have two classrooms:
• One classroom is dedicated to special sectors, such as persons with disabilities, senior citizens, lactating women, pregnant women.
• The second classroom is for the public.
The TDC instructors are exiting LTO personnel who, apart from their work, conduct the courses three times a week for five hours a day, said Caindec.
In August 2020, LTO 7 started offering TDC courses through their DEC, but with the implementation of the minimum health protocols, such as physical distancing and accommodating a limited number of students.
Caindec said that once the regular funding will be approved by the Central Office, LTO 7 will immediately offer PDC to the public. (NRC/With WBS, PR)
