Covid-19 cases back to above-2000 a day

NEW cases of coronavirus infections in the Philippines reverted to the above-2000 a day level, with the Department of Health (DOH) reporting 2,452 new cases on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

New infections exceeded 2,000 a day in seven out of the recent eight days from February 25 to March 4.

These new cases brought the cumulative case count to 584,667, including 37,226 active cases in hospitals and isolation facilities.

There were 15 additional deaths, raising the death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 12,404. The case fatality rate declined to 2.12 percent.

The DOH also reported 266 more recoveries, bringing the total to 535,037 which constitute 91.5 percent of the total case count.

The positivity rate increased to 9.8 percent as 2,513 out of 25,706 samples tested in the 24-hour period to noon of March 3 yielded positive results. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
