Dito’s launch will boost Cebu’s IT-BPM services

THE commercial launch of the third telco in the country Dito Telecommunity is expected to bolster the current information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) services of Cebu and make it a more attractive outsourcing hub for foreign companies.

Department of Information and Communications Technology 7 Visayas Cluster 2 Director Frederick Amores said Dito’s presence will give more options for both data and broadband consumers, especially now that people are working from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I believe the entry of Dito will enhance the available telecommunications infrastructure in Cebu and will give our stakeholders more options in terms of services and strengthen our capacity to provide IT-BPM services,” he told SunStar Cebu.

Dito will launch its services on Monday, March 8, 2021 in Metro Cebu areas, namely the cities of Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Mandaue and Talisay and towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Minglanilla, Naga and San Fernando.

Recently, the Philippines moved up to the 86th spot in the global mobile internet speed rankings in January 2021, according to data from an Ookla report.

The DICT described it as a marked improvement from the country’s 111th rank in the same period in 2020.

For fixed broadband, the country’s average download speed was recorded at 32.73 Mbps. The country retained its 100th ranking in the fixed broadband global average category.

Additionally, compared to December 2020, the Ookla January 2021 results witnessed a 4.10 percent increase from 31.44 Mbps (fixed broadband) and 14.53 percent from 22.50 Mbps (mobile).

After President Rodrigo Duterte’s mandate to advance improvements in telco services to ensure the country’s internet speed and quality, the government had been providing assistance to telco firms in their infrastructure buildup by expediting the approval of tower permits as a measure to improve Internet services amid the ongoing pandemic.
