THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has sued 48 motorists who have failed to settle their traffic violations for February 2021.

Lyntoni Sable, CCTO acting head, encouraged motorists with traffic violations to immediately settle them to avoid getting a bench warrant.

This, after he was informed by the CCTO’s Legal Division that they have forwarded the cases of 48 motorists to the Municipal Trial Court in Cities for failing to settle their violations last month.

“For those violators that we have issued citation tickets, please settle them immediately. You might be surprised if one day, you would receive a warrant from the court,” Sable said.

Motorists who were issued with citation tickets are given 72 hours or three days to settle their violations as prescribed in City Ordinance 801 as amended by City Ordinance 2491.

Rolando Poliquit of CCTO’s Legal Division said that every day, they forward at least 30 cases to the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office after the violators involved in those cases failed to settle their penalties.

Traffic citation tickets issued to violators who disregarded traffic signs are required to pay a P1,000 penalty. If they fail to settle the penalty, they could face a P3,000 penalty if it reaches the court.

If they have paid the P3,000 penalty, the court will return their bail bond, Poliquit said. (PAC/JKV)
