MANAGERS of hotels and resorts in Lapu-Lapu City are urged to convert their accommodations into isolation facilities as way to help them earn during the lean days when only a few tourists come to the city.

Cindi King-Chan, chairman of Lapu-Lapu City’s Tourism, Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (TCHAC), made the statement after noticing that only a few people are availing of hotel accomodations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The wife of Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan said hotels and resorts in the city must get accreditation from the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) so that they can offer isolation services.

There are seven hotels and resorts in Lapu-Lapu City that are offering quarantine and isolation services for Covid-19 asymptomatic patients.

“We truly understand their situation since this is the nature of the leisure industry. That is why we are encouraging them to apply for accreditation before DOH and DOT while there are still no tourists that they can accomodate for the time being,” the TCHAC chairman said.

But she is still optimistic that tourist arrivals in the city will increase soon now that the City is no longer requiring a negative swab test result for inbound travelers.

Mayor Chan has lifted that requirement as a way to provide convenience for those who want to go home to Cebu.

But the mayor said he is still getting clarification if they can forego the negative swab test requirement for inbound travelers from outside the country.

But while the negative swab test requirement will no longer be in effect, the City will still require those visiting the city to follow minimum health protocols such as the wearing of masks and face shields and observing social distancing.

Those who fail to comply with the City’s strict protocol will be penalized with a P1,000 fine with community service. (GCM/JKV)
